Hugs and Kisses

Fancy baking some yummy cupcakes for your sweetheart this Valentine’s day? Hand made gifts are always extra special and what better way to spoil your love than with a sweet sugary treat!

We’ve shared quite a few different cupcake recipes on this blog, choose your favourite flavour, whip up a batch and we’ll show you some fun ways to decorate!

Hugs and Kisses Valentine’s Cupcakes

So, so easy to make.  Start by applying your frosting to the top of your cupcake with a spatula or knife.  It doesn’t need to be neat, just flat.

Then arrange a few red smarties, M&M’s or sprinkles in the shape of an “x” on one of your cupcakes.  Create an “0″ shape on the next cupcake and repeat until they are all decorated.

You could even spell out the word “LOVE” or your sweethearts name.  Great creative!

These take a little prep work but are really worth the effort.  You’ll need some baking parchment and an icing syringe or bag.

Melt your chocolate then allow to cool slightly.  Fill your syringe or bag up with chocolate.

You can attempt this one of two ways – free hand or trace.  If you don’t feel confident enough to pipe on to the parchment paper without a guide then before you start draw out the heart shapes on the under side of your paper, then flip over for a guide to follow.  This is a good idea if you want all your chocolate decorations to be the same size.  Try not to make the lines too thin as you could end up breaking them when you remove them from the paper.

Allow your piped chocolate hearts to completely set.  Then gently peel the chocolate hearts off the paper.

(Tip: Always make more than you need, a few will inevitably break when you attempt to peel them off the paper)

Place in your icing and serve.  Beautiful!

I used a chocolate cupcake and carefully sliced off the top.  Using a heart shaped cutter like the one from our new celebration cutters, cut out a heart shape in the middle, then dust with a little icing sugar.

Take the base of the cupcake and spread a little pink frosting in the middle, then place the top back on.  The frosting should fill the hole but if you can always top it up if you need to.

If a little of the icing seeps out, gently wipe it away with a piece of kitchen paper.

Will you be baking anything this Valentine’s Day?  We’d love to see and hear about all your lovely treats so do share over on our Facebook page!
